In the past, when it came to high-end jewelry, most people were only familiar with brands like Cartier, Tiffany, and Bulgari.
However, in recent years, we’ve become acquainted with a wider range of jewelry brands. Names like Buccellati, Boucheron, and Messika are no longer unfamiliar to us.
Indeed, these jewelry brands have been gaining more and more recognition lately!
I’m also curious to know which brands make you think, “Wow, that person must have great taste!” when you see someone wearing their jewelry.
To be honest, I have a few “candidates” in mind!
These brands aren’t as ostentatious, but they hold a relatively high status in the jewelry world.
Moreover, these brands have all incorporated their generations-old aesthetic perspectives, gemstone quality, and exquisite craftsmanship into every piece of jewelry they design.
Now, let’s take a look at these jewelry brands that represent “good taste” and see if you agree!
Buccellati
Let’s start with Buccellati, the epitome of luxurious jewelry!
Buccellati is renowned for its superior gold engraving techniques, with each piece handcrafted by skilled artisans. People are willing to wait a long time for a single piece, despite the delay.
While the average person might not be familiar with this brand, it’s certainly not unfamiliar to our discerning readers!
Buccellati was founded in 1919 by Mario Buccellati, who was known as the “Prince of Goldsmiths” even back then.
So it’s fair to say that Buccellati’s exquisite craftsmanship truly has a rich family heritage.
Noble, magnificent, intricate, and mysterious – these have always been the impressions that Buccellati gives to people.
Not to mention Buccellati’s world-renowned techniques, which are unparalleled in the entire jewelry world!
Due to space limitations, let’s focus on two of the most important techniques today.
Macri
First is my personal favorite, the Macri series.
The pieces in this series shine like expensive silk, perfectly blending softness, elegance, and nobility!
Every time I see these pieces in person, I’m awestruck.
The secret to this high-end texture lies in the fine patterns on each piece. This is Buccellati’s exclusive Rigato parallel engraving technique.
Artisans must use hand-held engraving tools to carve up to 200,000 perfectly parallel fine lines on the metal.
This allows the metal to capture light, displaying a unique satin effect.
The bracelets best exemplify the beauty of Macri!
The silk-like bracelets complemented by inlaid gemstones perfectly blend understated elegance with magnificence, creating a sense of high-end luxury without being ostentatious.
However, this series is quite expensive. If you like the style and craftsmanship of the Macri series, I recommend starting with a thin bracelet.
Despite being thin, these bracelets lack nothing in terms of elegance and sophistication. They have the soft light and shadow effect of silk, yet with a noble radiance that silk can’t achieve!
At the same time, the thin bracelets have a delicate and light feel, making them more suitable for daily wear.
Tulle
The Tulle series is a Buccellati jewelry line that true connoisseurs go for!
On a honeycomb structure resembling tulle, sparkling diamonds are set.
It’s as if specks of starlight have fallen on lace.
The technique used in the Tulle series has a beautiful name: “tulle lace.”
The lace-like holes on the pieces require artisans to hand-punch circular holes on half-millimeter gold sheets, forming tiny hexagonal honeycomb structures inside.
This process requires immense patience and skill. Even the slightest mistake means the entire gold sheet must be discarded!
After such a complex process, the resulting pieces can truly be described as exquisite!
From a distance, the lace-like honeycomb structure blends with the skin, making the sparkling diamonds set in the piece stand out as if floating in the air.
Elegant, light, and ethereal – it’s no wonder it’s hailed as the “most beautiful golden lace”!
DAMIANI
When I mention the name DAMIANI, many people might not immediately recognize it.
But if I show you these pieces of jewelry, many of you will likely have an “aha” moment.
Indeed, these iconic designs in the jewelry world come from DAMIANI!
In the recent hit Korean drama “Queen of Tears,” Kim Ji-won, who played the “chaebol heiress” Hong Hae-in, wore several pieces of DAMIANI jewelry.
I must say, this brand perfectly aligns with the preferences of affluent women!
The designs are unique and not easily replicated, and each piece comes with a hefty price tag. Wearing them is like a “silent boast.”
This unique and high-end feeling is inseparable from DAMIANI’s background!
As I’ve mentioned before, this high-end Italian jewelry brand was born in 1924 and is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year!
As a family business, DAMIANI has been passed down through three generations, still adhering to traditional Italian craftsmanship. All pieces are handcrafted by top goldsmiths.
Moreover, since 1976, DAMIANI has won 18 awards in the Diamonds International Awards, often referred to as the “Oscars of the jewelry world.”
This record remains unbroken to this day!
Winning so many accolades proves that DAMIANI excels not only in diamond quality but also in creativity, craftsmanship, and design, showcasing its unique charm.
Belle Époque
DAMIANI has many interesting jewelry designs, one of the most representative being Belle Époque!
This necklace is not only unique in shape, but it also has a hidden feature!
It’s actually composed of two crosses, one large and one small. The outer layer is a cross-shaped openwork frame, while the inner layer is a small cross pendant studded with gemstones.
The two pendants can be worn together or separately as two beautiful cross pendants, offering high versatility and playfulness.
Combined with the gemstones set in the pendant and the inherent trendiness of the cross design, it’s luxurious for daily wear while making the wearer look cool and fashionable! ✨
Mimosa
In addition, DAMIANI has an even more radiant and noble Mimosa series.
This series looks like clusters of velvet flowers set with diamonds. It perfectly illustrates what “simple yet magnificent” means!
It uses a unique layered star-setting technique. The flower shapes look delicate and small, yet they’re three-dimensional, full, and well-arranged.
After ingenious craftsmanship, the diamonds are transformed into works of art that sparkle like countless stars! ✨
In the interplay of light and shadow, it presents a unique splendor and nobility, serving as the best signature of taste and elegance.
Wellendorff
Wellendorff, founded in Germany in 1893, is truly the “understated king” of the jewelry world.
How understated is this brand? In all my years of studying jewelry, I’ve hardly ever seen an advertisement for it.
Wellendorff’s three trump cards, which are the source of its understated confidence, are its proud spinning rings, gold rope necklaces, and elastic gold – these three major techniques!
Wellendorff’s primary signature piece, and also its most popular, is the spinning ring.
I remember a reader once shared that they chose it as their wedding ring. Truly befitting of our discerning audience, showing impeccable taste!
The inspiration for the spinning ring comes from the wishing ring at the bottom of the “Beautiful Fountain” in Nuremberg’s Schöner Brunnen. The outer circle of each ring can rotate freely.
In my opinion, Wellendorff’s spinning ring can be described as a masterpiece resulting from multiple techniques.
Take a look at the image below, which shows what the spinning ring looks like when it’s turning.
To achieve such a smooth rotating effect, the technique behind it is far from simple!
Each spinning ring is composed of a series of small independent rings, tightly connected with gaps of only 0.01 millimeters between each ring!
I must say, Wellendorff’s pursuit of ultimate craftsmanship is truly “German.”
Moreover, the delicate gold micro-carving on the outer ring and the colorful translucent cold enamel all require careful carving and polishing by craftsmen.
This results in an exquisite beauty akin to a work of art when worn.
It’s no wonder that despite their high price, many jewelry enthusiasts are willing to purchase these spinning rings!
Gold Rope Necklaces
Wellendorff’s gold rope necklaces hold an even higher status in the jewelry world!
It can be said to have accomplished an impossible task, associating the seemingly contradictory terms “gold” and “soft.”
To turn hard metal into something as soft as thread requires extremely complex techniques!
Craftsmen need to repeatedly heat, compress, and stretch gold bars to turn them into 0.3mm gold wire, then manually wind the gold wire around an inner axis.
Finally, the inner axis is removed and an 18K gold core is injected to complete a single gold rope strand.
Even in Wellendorff’s own workshops, only the most experienced craftsmen can complete this process!
The gold rope strands, born from this complex process, are woven together. Combined with Wellendorff’s unique invisible necklace clasp, they form a complete gold rope necklace.
When worn, it perfectly embodies the nobility and brilliance of gold, yet feels as soft and delicate as silk to the touch.
Elastic Gold
The final trump card technique is elastic gold!
This is a further development based on the gold rope, making the gold rope into an elastic bracelet.
Bracelets using the elastic gold technique maintain flexibility while having more tension, which is truly amazing.
Boucheron
Boucheron, established in 1858, is one of Europe’s top-tier, long-standing high-end jewelry houses!
In my opinion, Boucheron’s most impressive piece is undoubtedly the Question Mark necklace.
Since its debut in 1879, it has led trends with its bold design featuring no clasp and an open end.
The main body is an invisible spring. Designers must find the exact contours of the neck to ensure the necklace’s center of gravity falls precisely at the middle of the collarbone.
As a result, the necklace sits perfectly on the chest without adjustment and always remains centered, showcasing its exquisite craftsmanship!
The high-end jewelry animal series is another testament to Boucheron’s imaginative creativity.
For instance, these stunning parrot earrings! 🦜
It’s as if beautiful creatures from nature have alighted on your ears, radiating dazzling, lifelike spirit and vitality!
Nature
Another series that exemplifies Boucheron’s ingenious design and craftsmanship is the iconic feather-shaped jewelry from the Nature collection.
Each tiny feather fiber has a different orientation, just like feathers blown by the wind, seemingly fluid like water.
Such a dazzling and lively design is surely a staple for tasteful, affluent women.
Pomellato
Next up is Pomellato, another high-end jewelry brand from Italy.
Founded in 1967 in Milan, it’s the youngest among the brands we’re introducing today.
Perhaps due to its youth, Pomellato’s style differs from the previous brands.
It’s lively, fashionable, and full of Milanese passion and trendy vitality!
Jewelry-loving girls are surely familiar with Pomellato’s iconic Nudo series.
This series resembles three-dimensional colored rock candies, becoming one of the most suitable jewelry pieces for summer with its simple lines and vibrant colors!
Don’t be fooled by Nudo’s apparent simplicity; the craftsmanship behind it is also impressive!
To achieve such a transparent effect, this series uses a bezel-less setting technique. Without the obstruction of prongs, the beauty of the gemstones and their free-spirited atmosphere are more prominent.
Each gemstone has 57 hand-carved irregular facets, allowing the stone to fully reflect light and radiate brilliance!
CINDY CHAO
Lastly, CINDY CHAO can be considered the “most mysterious” among all the brands we’ve discussed today.
Forget about affordability; you might even find it challenging to see CINDY CHAO jewelry in person!
CINDY CHAO’s loyal fans are exclusively socialites, tycoons, and top-tier celebrities!
Perhaps it’s because these famous and wealthy individuals are accustomed to fine things that they particularly appreciate such sophisticated, collectible jewelry.
This brand excels at using various dazzling gemstones to depict the myriad forms of nature.
Their creations blend architectural and sculptural elements while exuding vibrant vitality, making them unforgettable at first sight.
Ultimately, there’s no universally accepted standard for which brands represent good taste.
The brands we’ve discussed today are relatively niche, with distinctive craftsmanship and design, which is why they’re synonymous with “sophisticated jewelry” in my mind.
I hope this provides you with different options when considering future jewelry purchases!
