As the weather heats up, it’s time for straw bags to take center stage. Comparatively, they’re lighter in weight and lower in price, making them quite appealing and highly functional for many people. These old photos never get tiresome to look at.

Various luxury brands are constantly releasing beautiful designs. Just a quick bit of research, and I’ve been thoroughly tempted by several models!
Without further ado, let’s review a selection of straw bags worth buying from major brands:
Miu Miu
Miu Miu truly understands how to capture a girl’s heart, even making woven handbags exude a rich heiress vibe. The openwork design looks light and breathable, suitable for both hand-carrying and cross-body wear, giving a refreshing summer look.
Not only is it beautiful in appearance, but it’s also practical. The handle length is perfectly designed, and its light weight makes it comfortable to carry. It also comes with a canvas inner bag, making it safer to store keys, wallets, and the like.
They also have a mini bucket bag with an openwork design, which is light and cute. It’s relatively softer to the touch and can be hand-carried or used as an inner bag in larger bags.
This little pineapple bag charm instantly caught my heart! It adds a lovely touch when hung on the mini bucket bag.
These cute, bag charm-style “mini bags” are versatile accessories.
Many people have likely seen their Tote bag, with its shield-shaped leather patch and woven handles creating a strong design element.
This year, they’ve also released several fabric tote bags, available in both vertical and horizontal versions, with a rich variety of color options more suitable for daily use. This red and blue color combination has a strong academic vibe.
They also come in vibrant, fresh colors, with light blue being particularly gentle and soft.
The dark green and saffron color clash fits my aesthetic perfectly, although this model isn’t currently available in online boutiques.
Loro Piana
Loro Piana’s popular Extra Pocket 19 also comes in a bamboo woven version, which looks very tempting.
While most bamboo woven bags have a strong vacation vibe, Loro Piana’s version maintains a high-end feel, thanks to its squarish lunchbox shape and calfskin flap. As expected from LP, a representative of old money style.
This year, they’ve introduced another potential hit, The Ghiera Bag, with a more playful style in the popular beige and brown color combination for straw bags.
It has a strong artistic feel when worn. The bag’s silhouette is rounded yet square, giving it a more casual air and making it more suitable for daily commutes than the Extra Pocket. However, with significant leather and metal areas, it’s likely not lightweight.
The bag’s closure is designed with a circular metal clasp that opens with a simple press, making it more convenient than drawstring or magnetic clasp designs on woven bags. It also scores high on safety and recognizability.
Currently, this bag style is only available in mini and small sizes. Judging from the model photos, the small size seems quite large and might overwhelm petite figures.
It can be hand-carried, worn cross-body, or over the shoulder, making it a rattan bag suitable for both vacations and everyday use.
Bottega Veneta
BV, known for its weaving craftsmanship, has produced numerous straw bags in various styles and designs.
In 2024, there’s a rather eye-catching contender, namely the Sardine, which boasts high aesthetic appeal.
It exudes refined femininity and pairs perfectly with various dresses.
The relaxed raffia combined with the luxurious sardine handle is very design-forward, making it feel like you’re carrying a piece of art.
The opening is thoughtfully designed with a leather magnetic clasp, providing more security than an open top and preventing items from falling out.
Surprisingly, the shoulder strap is also made of leather and metal weave, maintaining a high level of taste. Compared to most straw bags, it offers greater comfort when worn on the shoulder and visually enhances one’s elegance.
It comes in only one size, large enough to fit an iPad mini. The downside is that it lacks internal compartments, so for important small items, it’s advisable to use an additional small wallet inside!
Loewe
Now we come to S’s favorite, Loewe. This bag, which she favors every summer, was initially purchased in the small dumpling bag panda color, and has since increased in price.
The new oversized version even adds an openwork design, showing how Loewe has truly taken straw bags to the next level.
As a major player in straw bags, many of their designs feature leather or metal chain straps, making them suitable for less formal work environments.
Recently, Wang Yibo was announced as their global ambassador. His suede Puzzle bag, worn en route to a fashion show, sold out at lightning speed. Naturally, this classic style also comes in a straw version, featuring colorful striped weaving.
It’s reminiscent of a sweater, with bold and bright colors that create a strong vacation vibe. The popular Puzzle fold of recent years also has a woven version, with classic colors that should transition well into autumn and winter.
Loewe’s straw bags are crafted by local artisans in Monaco, Madagascar, and Colombia. For each bag sold, a donation is made to local art or craft organizations, which is quite meaningful. The Fendi straw bags we introduced last week follow a similar practice.
Prada
Prada has also put considerable effort into their straw collection this year, releasing not just bags but also shoes and hats. For instance, the popular fisherman sandals, though price-to-performance ratio isn’t really a consideration for this type of item.
We previously wrote about Jenny Walton’s bags; she’s considered one of the walking ambassadors for straw bags. The luxury brand she carries most often is Prada, and she once said she can’t resist anything by Miuccia Prada.
The most frequently seen is the tote with shoulder straps, which pairs perfectly with summer outfits. Jenny loves to combine it with blue items, instantly creating a layered look.
Made of raffia, it’s light, durable, and flexible. The shoulder strap design is particularly practical, increasing its versatility, and the under-arm carrying style adds a casual touch.
Prada’s new season posters, designed like oil paintings, are quite attractive and feature many straw bags. The most classic straw tote now comes in a smaller size, which can’t be shoulder-carried but still offers ample capacity.
The iconic 2000 reissue dumpling bag also has a woven version, featuring a zipper and a detachable wide shoulder strap, likely making it a lightweight and practical bag.
Celine
Celine is a major contender in the straw bag arena! Let’s start with the underarm Hobo. It has a rounded shape that fits perfectly under the arm, exuding a strong sense of fashion.
It can accommodate a parasol, phone, wallet, and other essentials, suitable for daily commutes or shopping trips.
This year’s new Teen Couffin straw dumpling bag is also beautiful, with a golden Arc de Triomphe pattern paired with brown leather. It’s petite yet retains a vintage feel, and can be hand-carried or worn over the shoulder.
The magnetic flap provides some protection for the contents while serving as a design highlight.
In the 2024 new collection, I’m also fond of the Triomphe basket bag. The brand’s signature Arc de Triomphe pattern is woven into the bag, becoming one with the body. The top has a petal-like curve, making it quite unique.
Available in small and medium sizes, the medium size shown below is more practical, able to fit a 12-inch tablet, light jacket, thermos, and more.
Their classic palm leaf basket bag is also a photogenic item, popular among Instagram bloggers. The large logo looks very chic when worn. It’s suitable for shoulder carrying, giving a more relaxed feel, and pairs well with most outfits.
However, it has received some criticism. The palm leaf weave is slightly heavy, so it’s best not to put in heavy items as your shoulders might not appreciate it 😂.
It only comes in one medium size. If you find it too large and potentially overwhelming for your frame, you might want to try the very similar Teen version, which has shorter handles and looks beautiful when hand-carried.
Besides brown, it also comes in white and blue, offering fresher colors with a stronger summer vibe.
Cesta Collective
Among niche bag brands, Cesta Collective is a popular choice for straw bags. This New York-based brand has a very romantic and artistic style.
Their striped designs are their specialty, gaining popularity for their enduring appeal.
Their most popular item is this striped straw bag, also made of raffia, hand-woven by female artisans in Rwanda. The interior is organic cotton, providing good breathability.
It’s quite spacious, meeting travel needs and even serving as a mommy bag. The downside is that its size might be a bit overwhelming for petite figures. Also, it doesn’t come with a long shoulder strap, which might be inconvenient if you’re carrying many items.
They also offer bucket bags, which are very popular and loved by Instagram bloggers.
The bucket bag style comes in many variations, each with its unique features, enough to trigger choice anxiety!
Longchamp
For those with a budget in the hundreds, there are worthy straw bag options from luxury brands, namely the Le Panier Pliage. That’s right, Longchamp has created a straw version of their popular tote bag.
This mini size is quite popular.
The cute, small tote shape combined with the all-over galloping horse print incorporates both the classic dumpling bag style and a touch of pastoral charm.
Compared to most straw bags, this one actually has stronger daily pairing potential and isn’t as picky with outfits. Only the logo and the handle part that contacts the shoulder are made of leather, while the rest is palm leaf weave.
It comes in mini and small sizes. The mini has limited capacity and the shoulder strap isn’t adjustable, but it can still fit items like a card holder and sunglasses. The small size is more suitable for daily commutes, able to accommodate a water bottle, parasol, iPad mini, and more.
