For many jewelry enthusiasts, the focus is often on the gemstones themselves. However, the true charm of jewelry lies in the perfect combination of gemstones and design, each enhancing the other.
Today, we’ll introduce you to two brands that place great emphasis on design and creativity: one is a newcomer to the jewelry scene, Yilanliu Jewelry, which despite its youth has already made a name for itself internationally. The other, surprisingly, is Fuli Gemstones International Holdings Group (hereafter referred to as “Fuli Gemstones”), known for producing high-quality peridots.
Surprised? Why does Fuli, with its own gemstone mines, place such importance on design? How has such a young designer brand gained such renown in the fashion world? Let’s uncover these mysteries!
Fuli Gemstones
Innovation is key to making more people fall in love with peridot
Fuli Gemstones International Holdings Group owns the world’s largest known peridot gemstone deposit – the Yiqisong Nanshan peridot mine in Dunhua, Jilin, China. They believe that continuous innovation and new designs are essential to introduce peridot to more people and make them fall in love with it.
Therefore, they constantly collaborate with renowned jewelry designers from China and abroad, utilizing peridot from different aesthetic perspectives to showcase its ultimate beauty.
Fuli Gemstones has partnered with the distinctively styled British jewelry designer Stephen Webster to launch a unique Magnipheasant series feather necklace. This designer, known for his innovative personality, has added a new masterpiece to his signature series using Fuli’s peridots.
Stephen Webster is skilled in creating powerful designs. Even traditional design elements like feathers become striking in his hands. He used a 178.15-carat pear-shaped cut Fuli peridot, paired with black and white diamonds, creating a subtle gradient from the bright and vivid Fuli peridot to black and white. This gives each feather more dimension, while these sharp “gemstone feathers” make the necklace vibrant and eye-catching.
Chinese jewelry designer Sun Qian excels at infusing the spirit of Chinese literati into her jewelry designs. For her, beautiful jewelry should neither flaunt wealth nor stand out ostentatiously, but rather serve as a carrier of values and aesthetic cultivation. Fuli Gemstones invited this designer, who values traditional Chinese culture, to create with peridots. Sun Qian brought forth the “Treasure Gathering” series inspired by seashells.
In Chinese culture, seashells are often viewed as auspicious symbols of good luck and longevity, representing the accumulation of wealth and blessings. Peridot represents hope, and the yellow-green light of the gemstone is called the “light of wealth,” perfectly aligning with the theme of “gathering treasures and blessings.”
The warm color of gold combined with irregularly shaped, translucent peridots, complemented by 360-degree three-dimensional gold sculpture designs, creates jewelry artworks that are both full of vitality and intriguing.
Fuli Gemstones has a broad vision and never limits itself. They have previously collaborated with Carmel Mountain, a jewelry brand specializing in jadeite, inviting Chinese original designer Li Wenya to create a joint design. This collaboration sparked passionate creativity between jadeite, beloved by Chinese people, and peridot.
The designer explained that peridot was discovered in meteorites early on, making it a gemstone from the cosmos. Therefore, she chose the concept of the “Eye of the Universe,” matching dark green ink jade with sunshine-filled peridot to showcase the depth and hope of the universe.
Fuli Gemstones has also invited collaboration with the jewelry brand Guan Wu Shang. The driving force behind this brand might be familiar to many – it’s the explosively talented actress Hao Lei. However, when it comes to jewelry, she is quite delicate and gentle. Inspired by her favorite poet Li Qingzhao, she created a series of jewelry pieces with peridot as the main stone.
Two of the brooches were inspired by the same poem by Li Qingzhao – “As in a Dream: I Often Recall the Sunset at the Riverside Pavilion.” The aim was to use peridot to showcase the tranquility deep within the lotus flowers and the picturesque evening scene of returning boats and egrets described in the poem.
Hao Lei wanted to use specially cut peridots to present this beautiful imagery. Fuli Gemstones contacted a master gemstone cutter in Germany, who was truly moved by Hao Lei’s creativity and Li Qingzhao’s story, and designed a special cutting technique for the pieces.
The peridot inlaid in “Sunset” uses an internal cutting technique to create a lotus flower shape, complementing the egret wings made of pearls and diamonds, and the golden wire-woven ripples on the lake surface. This presents the dreamlike scene described in the poem of accidentally entering deep into a lotus pond at sunset while boating.
Yilanliu Jewelry
Avant-garde creativity propels her to the top from the start
Liu Yilan, a graduate of Central Saint Martins, established her eponymous jewelry brand. Her broad international perspective infuses her work with a fashion-forward sense, quickly landing her pieces on the runways of New York and Milan Fashion Weeks. In 2020, she won the gold award at the A’Design Award, known as the “Oscars of Design,” becoming the only Chinese designer to win in the “Jewelry Design” category.
Her use of minimalist silhouettes and colors, along with unique gemstone cutting techniques, makes her work instantly eye-catching and a favorite among many celebrities.
Yilan is a designer full of creativity and edge. She loves the collision of extreme colors and uses unique flat-cut gemstone techniques to build three-dimensional jewelry, creating a strong visual impact.
For example, her Prelude series, inspired by Gothic architecture, uses minimalist geometric lines to outline the most representative ribbed vault structure of Gothic cathedrals. She specially employs high-purity color-matched flat geometric-cut gemstones to interpret the unique stained glass designs of Gothic cathedrals, ultimately presenting the mysterious and sublime Gothic style through unique light and shadow effects and three-dimensional shapes.
The “Red and Blue Earrings” pair passionate and confident red with mysterious and steady blue. The three-dimensional geometric shape and asymmetrical design allow the wearer to display two completely different sides.
The Crystalline Irregular Brooch is a piece beloved by many celebrities, including Xiao Yang and Mao Buyi. The metal part of the brooch uses a combination of multi-faceted geometric shapes, while the central part employs a dense gemstone inlay design, making the overall shape striking. Yilan designed two texture effects for this brooch to suit different wearing occasions.
The seemingly minimalist geometric metal parts are full of detailed designs, which can be a combination of mirror and frosted techniques for a glamorous and flamboyant look, or mirror and wire-drawing techniques for a refined and fashionable appearance. Although it’s just a small brooch, it’s also a fashion statement that promotes individuality.

The Crystal Swing Earrings are another piece favored by many celebrities, chosen by “strong female lead” stars like Ning Jing and Zhang Yuqi. The three-dimensional geometric metal design adopts a three-section dynamic design, effectively enhancing mobility. It can increase presence by utilizing light reflection from the geometric mirrors as the wearer moves.

The Moonlight Silver Asymmetric Necklace uses a Y-chain design, which can accentuate a long, graceful neckline. The single-side multi-chain design brings a rich sense of layering while breaking traditional symmetrical aesthetics to showcase a unique asymmetrical style.
The gemstone tassel is a highlight of this necklace, attracting people’s gaze. When the dazzling gemstones shine at the collarbone, they create a high-light moment and outline a confident and unique personal style.
