In recent years, whether it’s Hermès, Chanel, LV, or Fendi, Dior, Gucci – all the well-known luxury brands have been “heating up” in the high jewelry category. The frequency of new releases and the extravagance of high jewelry pieces have truly opened this editor’s eyes.
Some brands’ collections, I must admit, don’t quite impress me. For instance, the article “GUCCI’s High Jewelry: Surprisingly Reminiscent of Northeast Chinese Cotton Jackets!” However, I often feel these designers are trying too hard, although most styles are still quite nice.
Today, I’m excited to show you Dior’s new high jewelry collection for 2024, “Diorama & Diorigami,” launched this May. To complement this series, Dior’s first female creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, presented 25 new Dior haute couture looks.
Interestingly, this collection also draws inspiration from the brand’s fashion elements, reinterpreting the Toile de Jouy decorative totem to create a dreamlike world full of exotic flowers and fascinating animals.
This collection features 172 pieces and marks designer Victoire de Castellane’s first venture into animal and plant jewelry, which is truly stunning. Let me highlight a few representative pieces for your appreciation.
The most representative piece of the collection is a gold necklace. Through gold carving techniques, it creates a lifelike dense shrub, while the central emerald and the surrounding tsavorites portray a lush forest.
The most eye-catching elements, in my opinion, are the subtly visible deer, swan, rabbit, and squirrel carved from chrysoprase in the “jungle.” They are particularly vivid and adorable, seemingly guarding the central emerald that appears to represent the soul of nature.
Honestly, Dior does have a penchant for “flora and fauna.” The next set of works is my favorite, especially the choice of gemstones, which I find very appealing.
The main stone in this set is the ever-changing opal. Besides the uniquely shaped “fairy,” the combination of Paraiba tourmaline, sapphire, tsavorite, pearl, and white diamond is particularly pleasing to me. I feel this piece can only be carried off by a girl full of “spiritual energy.” The only disappointing thing is that I couldn’t find any photos of models wearing this set.
The set above, in my opinion, has the strongest Oriental flavor. The white mother-of-pearl cut resembles a pond, with the subtle iridescence of pearls like reflections in the water.
Look closely, and you’ll see diamond-shaped swans, turquoise and sapphire-shaped trees and flowers. If the brand wasn’t mentioned, I would have thought this was high jewelry from MIKIMOTO.
I won’t introduce each piece individually now. Let’s quietly appreciate them together.
