Cate Blanchett set a sustainable trend at the Cannes Film Festival with a repurposed Louis Vuitton high jewellery shoulder chain.
Known for her effortlessly chic style, Cate Blanchett wore a unique Louis Vuitton custom-made high jewellery pearl shoulder chain to the screening of “The Apprentice.” This one-of-a-kind piece, composed entirely of repurposed precious metals, pearls, and diamonds, not only highlighted her elegance but also emphasized her and the brand’s commitment to circular creativity.
Following her appearance at the BAFTA Awards in London, the Australian actress embarked on a creative mission with Francesca Amfitheatrof, Louis Vuitton’s Artistic Director for Watches and Jewelry. “This is our third collaboration with Cate, repurposing materials and pieces from existing collections to create a simple and elegant diamond and pearl series,” Amfitheatrof explained. “Our goal is to create surprises and explore imaginative ways to reuse and repurpose materials.
New ideas and designs often emerge from what’s already around us; the key is how you explore and capture them.”
Their shared vision for sustainability created a unique design for the Cannes Film Festival. This minimalist necklace features white Ayoka pearls and metallic grey Tahitian pearls, along with 633 diamonds, all sourced from past Louis Vuitton high jewelry pieces.
This custom-made jewel is meticulously hand-woven, perfectly embracing the actress’s shoulders while allowing movement with the body. The necklace is a testament to their collaboration, displayed on the actress’s bare skin, complementing her simple strapless gown and small diamond hoop earrings.
Known for her fashion and ethical statements on the red carpet, Cate Blanchett chose the Cannes Film Festival, one of the year’s most important high jewelry events, where the world’s attention is focused on this famous city on the French Riviera.
Unlike other one-night celebrity events and award ceremonies, this French film festival lasts two weeks, attracting a multitude of A-list stars, followed by fashion designers and jewelers making their red carpet appearances. During these two weeks of concentrated stardom, a vast amount of jewelry is transported to the French Riviera, stored in safety deposit boxes, waiting to be exposed each night to paparazzi from around the world lining La Croisette.
In this magnificent setting, Cate Blanchett stepped out of her luxury car and onto the red carpet of the Palais de Festival, facing a crowd of photographers. Blanchett’s off-the-shoulder dress and this extremely simple necklace reminded the world of the importance of maintaining sustainability.
