1000 Carats of Dazzling Jewels at Indian Billionaire’s Wedding: Whose Bling Reigns Supreme?

The grand wedding documentary “The Extravagant Wedding of India’s Richest Family’s Youngest Son” has finally reached its conclusion. The 7-month-long celebration has left spectators overwhelmed. While the A-list celebrity performances and gatherings of global billionaires might be fleeting attractions, our focus remains on the breathtaking array of jewels that have captivated audiences.

The billionaire family did not disappoint. During the final three days of the official wedding ceremony, the entire family showcased jewellery that took opulence to new heights. It’s reminiscent of the old saying, “Pearls are like dirt, gold is like iron,” though in this case, we should replace pearls with diamonds and gold with gemstones. Never before has one thought diamonds could be so “common”! Layer upon layer of jewels were stacked, primarily aiming to dazzle the onlookers!

This wedding clearly demonstrates India’s history as a diamond source. The people here have a deep love for these gems, displaying an astonishing quantity, size, color, and variety of placements. The largest diamond to make an appearance was likely the 100-carat yellow diamond centerpiece in the grand necklace worn by the billionaire’s wife, Nita Ambani.

This masterpiece was meticulously handcrafted by Indian jeweler Kantilal Chhotalal, requiring 1000 hours of work. Naturally, all the diamonds came from Nita Ambani’s personal collection.

Beyond the central yellow diamond, there’s an 80-carat pear-shaped yellow diamond pendant. The matching forehead ornament and earrings also feature yellow diamonds of similar size and hue. Set against the backdrop of a 5-tier diamond necklace, the ensemble radiated brilliance.

Kantilal Chhotalal seems to have been the “official jeweler” for this billionaire wedding, providing at least one set of jewels for each female family member. As the matriarch, Nita Ambani naturally received an extra set. She commissioned the designer to create a diamond lotus necklace for her.

While not as dazzling as the previous piece, this diamond lotus necklace exudes an ethereal quality. It employs India’s most traditional diamond cuts – the portrait cut and rose cut.

Transparent, flat portrait-cut diamonds create the rippling water surface, upon which rose-cut diamond-encrusted lotus flowers bloom. Paired with matching diamond hair and forehead ornaments, this ensemble departs from the usual extravagance, appearing light and elegant.

Another diamond necklace at the wedding was equally stunning, emphasizing sheer volume. It was the enormous jeweled collar necklace created by Kantilal Chhotalal for the billionaire’s daughter, Isha Ambani, named “Garden of Love,” which took 4000 hours to complete. Naturally, all the diamonds used in this necklace also came from the billionaire family’s collection.

Kantilal Chhotalal stated: “These are heirloom gems that Nita Ambani has been collecting for her daughter for years. It’s not just a large number of colorless diamonds; it also features rare pink, blue, green, and orange diamonds in the center. That’s why it’s called the ‘Garden of Love,’ as these colored diamonds representing motherly love are like a garden blooming with colorful flowers.”

The diamond necklace Kantilal Chhotalal created for the eldest daughter-in-law, Shloka Ambani, was equally impressive. Although it lacked colored diamonds, each diamond was of considerable size and cut in the modern brilliant style, radiating dazzling fire. Meticulously arranged in four rows of different shapes – heart, round, and pear – you can hardly see any metal. The effect is simply blinding.

The matching multi-layered earrings and bracelets were also entirely diamond-encrusted, with every detail complementing each other. Before this wedding, you might have thought no one could pull off such a massive amount of diamonds, but the Indian family proved otherwise!

Lastly, Kantilal Chhotalal crafted an exquisite diamond choker for the bride, Radhika Ambani. Compared to the previous pieces, this necklace took a more romantic and delicate approach. It fit like intricate lace, featuring the plant vine motif popular in India for thousands of years, giving it a youthful and lively appearance.

Of course, Nita Ambani’s favorite gemstone remains the emerald. Following the extravagant “mahjong tile” display at the pre-wedding party, she presented us with a new piece – a large-carat emerald set with enviable color, clarity, and size.

In Indian culture, emeralds symbolize life, wisdom, and prosperity, so she wore them during the wedding’s auspicious blessing ceremony to complement her custom-made sari, which had the names of all her children and grandchildren embroidered on the back.

Due to the auspicious meaning of emeralds, the bride Radhika Ambani also chose to wear emerald jewelry on the main wedding day. This necklace, created by renowned Indian jewelry designer Viren Bhagat, was adorned with numerous pear-shaped emeralds, exuding grandeur and elegance.

She didn’t limit herself to just one set of emerald jewelry. When pairing with another light-colored sari, she took layering diamond necklaces to the extreme, rivaling Queen Alexandra of Britain. However, she balanced the overall jewelry ensemble by using a pendant with a large emerald as the “grand finale.”

In fact, the entire family seems to adore emeralds, making them appear almost as common as ordinary stones. Nearly everyone wore an emerald piece, though the specific designers remain unknown for most. What we can confirm is that the groom’s panther brooch is from Cartier, featuring a 720-carat emerald. This might just be the most stable panther we’ve ever seen.

The eldest daughter-in-law, Shloka Ambani’s emerald set was equally eye-catching, reportedly designed by Viren Bhagat. While the choker, forehead ornament, and earrings were relatively small pieces, the showstopper was her double-layered emerald belt. Imagine, while most people consider an emerald ring a family heirloom, they’re using emeralds for belts…

You might have noticed that daughter Isha Ambani didn’t appear wearing emerald jewelry. Actually, she did, but her new necklace was even more luxurious than emeralds. It was a rainbow choker made of rubies, emeralds, sapphires, fire opals, diamonds, and other gemstones. It reportedly took three years just to collect gemstones of matching quality.

The Indian billionaire’s family not only adorned their necks, wrists, ears, and waists with jewels, but their clothing also featured gold and silver embroidery. With jewels seemingly everywhere, they discovered a “new frontier” – hair ornaments! The family matriarch, Nita Ambani, led by example, decorating her bun with large single diamonds, each estimated to be at least 3 carats.

Daughter Isha Ambani followed suit, wearing a Van Cleef & Arpels ballerina brooch in her hair. She had to find an alternative placement as she was already wearing an enormous ruby necklace paired with a mini embroidered sari on her front.

Later, she commissioned another Indian jeweler, Birdhichand, to create a traditional “braid jewel” for her, encrusted with diamonds, rubies, sapphires, and emeralds. While undoubtedly dazzling, one can’t help but wonder about the weight on her scalp.

This is still not a complete inventory, given the extended duration of the wedding celebrations. However, it’s clear that the Indian billionaire family’s jewelry collection rivals that of European royalty. Perhaps their proximity to the source gives them an advantage?

It suddenly becomes clear why the billionaire family’s wedding was so prolonged – it provided an opportunity for their vast jewelry collection to make a grand appearance!
